As you may be aware, there has been recent flooding of footpaths and inundation of the floodplain surrounding Kent Street Weir.
In response to this, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (formerly Department of Water) have revised the construction approach. Will now be undertaking a staged development where part of the coffer dam is deconstructed. This is to allow more water to flow downstream, thereby reducing inundation in the area and intermittent closures of surrounding footpaths.
Temporary bridge closure
The partial deconstruction is scheduled to occur at the start of next week. The resulting release of water may cause instability of the temporary bridge, and/or cause water to flow over the bridge, which will make it unsafe to use. Therefore, we are planning to close the temporary bridge for a short period of time from Monday 7th August, until an acceptable water level is reached. This may take between 1 – 3 days. Please seek an alternative route across the Canning River during this time. The nearest crossing point is Greenfield Street Bridge.
