Even with a not nice Weather forecast paddlers started arriving at Ascot Kayak Club in Garvey Park at 6;30 am ready for the Long Distance Sprints in a new format. 70 paddlers had registered for the event with a few late comers registering on the day.
First away, in the rain, was the Guppy Singles race followed by the U14s & U16s. The U18s/U23s/Open/35+ where combined into one to give a higher level of racing. With all the masters paddlers combined into one Start the run up to the first buoy had plenty of slop. After the Singles events all there was Double Event for all. In all events there was several close races in races as long time rivals matched each other out and tried to keep other paddlers behind them.
Final Event for the day was a Relay Race back and forward across the river. Each Team had 6 paddlers from different age groups. Team 4 (Harriette, Elizabeth, Clare, Angelina, Gillian and Gabrielle) ran out winners by a close margin.
Our thanks to all the Volunteers on the day that helped with registration, set up and put down, Ramon and Jesse for taking on the Officer of the Day Role, the Timers and Spotters, who where thrown into the deep end and the Guppy Escorts keeping our youngest paddlers on track.
Big thanks to Ascot Kayak Club for the use of their clubhouse for the Event and WAIS for the use of their power boat to put the buoys out and bring in.
Results attached, one worksheet for Singles and a separate one for Doubles. Some timing problems during the morning so apologies for the missing times but the positions are there.
