For the first time since 2015, we are very proud to announce that Lawrence Greed is a Life Member of Paddle WA!
Lawrence has been an active paddler in WA for over 30 years, and in that time has had a significant impact on all aspects of our sport. Also a Life Member of Ascot Kayak Club, Lawrence has held various executive and general committee roles within the club, and has been instrumental in developing training pathways and facilities.
Outside of the club, he has been on the committees for the disciplines of Sprint, Slalom, Marathon, Wildwater, Canoe Polo and has toured internationally to support WA paddlers at Wildwater and Freestyle competitions. In the 1990s, Lawrence was a pivotal figure on the Board of Canoe Education and dedicated numerous weekends to instructing new paddlers on whitewater trips. Lawrence was also on the organising committee of the 2004 Wildwater National Championships, the last time the competition was held in WA.
More recently, Lawrence almost single-handedly coordinated the highly successful 2019 Australian Canoe Sprint Championships in WA and was still able to find time to compete and take photos. Soon after this was over, Lawrence began training for the 2019 Australian Canoe Marathon National Championships and was selected for the 2019 Australian Masters Canoe Marathon Team.
Lawrence competed at the 2019 ICF Canoe Marathon Masters World Championships in Shaoxing, China, where he won bronze in the 55+ MK2 with BPC’s Allan Ribbons.
Paddle WA is honoured to have such an exceptional paddler inducted as a Life Member, and cannot thank Lawrence enough for the contribution that he has made, and continues to make, to paddling in Western Australia.
Life Membership is the most prestigious paddling award in Western Australia, with all inductees having made exceptional contributions to the development of paddling in WA. Click the link below to see the full list of Paddle WA Life Members
