Basic Skills

The Basic Skills Course is a participation program, designed as an ‘entry pathway’ into paddling. This course is beneficial for anybody wanting to learn the basic paddling strokes and safety skills to go paddling in Western Australia.

Courses are delivered by our Paddle Academy instructors, and all participants receive a certificate following completion of the course.

 

A variety of paddling skills, safety and rescue techniques are covered in the course, including:

  • Preparing paddle craft and equipment
  • Launching and landing
  • Correct paddling posture
  • Paddling strokes and the correct technique
  • ‘Rafting up’
  • Deep water rescues

 

All equipment is provided (kayak, paddle, life jacket) but you can use your own if you wish. The minimum age is 12 and it is a half day course. The cost is $88.00 per person.
